In some circles, particularly some of the 'spiritual' ones I follow online, we're told that change can only come from within. That's absolutely true for cognitive, behavioural, or spiritual growth. But it's just the first step.
How about improving realities for our families, communities, and planet? We can't just pray and namaste the problems away.
Inner work > community building > identifying problems > solving them.
Look at Bangladesh this week. Individuals decided they'd had enough. They organised, formed, and stormed—risking their lives. Through pain and resistance, the power of the collective brought change.
My algorithm tries to sway me, to believe "they" are separate from me, that I should detach. One platform would have me hating Jews, Blacks, Whites and myself, and another will have me believing I'm powerless. I refuse.
So what can I solve? I'm just one voice, one person. No—I'm part of the world.
Whatsoever we do to the least of our community, that we do unto ourselves.
But I'm only one person. What can change if we unite?
Apartheid fell. Women's rights advanced. Workers Rights. Gay marriage (can we just call it marriage?) became reality.
The challenges we face are endless, but so is our potential to solve them.
We can't rely on algorithms to educate us or namaste our way out of wicked problems.
The work starts within, but the power comes from community. It comes when we rally around a problem and commit to solving it.
Sure, I can seek personal enlightenment. I can join a protest. I can doom-scroll and share posts. But what really changes?
Community matters. Finding your people matters. Raising your voice matters. Channeling your fury into action matters. Solutions matter.
We can't detach from the world's problems. We need to engage, unite, and act.
What global issue are you passionate about solving? How can we harness collective action to address it?
Namaste, sisters and brothers. Now let's get to work.
